ABOUT SALEM TRAVEL SOCCER

Salem Soccer Association offers travel recreation soccer for 1st - 8th grade boys and girls. Our year runs August 1st - July 31st, with a primary Fall season, optional winter programming depending on division availability, and Junior High opportunities in the Spring season.

During the Fall we play in the SWIS (Southwest Illinois Soccer) league. SWIS is a traveling recreation league for soccer programs to enjoy a wider range of soccer than local recreation programs can provide.  SWIS is offered in many town starting in with 1st/2nd grade. Salem enters at least one team in each age division based on players registered.
We currently have the following divisions:
                                                                    1st/2nd grade Coed
                                                                    3rd/4th grade Girls
                                                                    3rd/4th grade Boys
                                                                    5th/6th grade Girls
                                                                    5th/6th grade Boys
                                                                    7th/8th grade Coed

Our Spring soccer is in the SIMSS (Southern Illinois Middle School Soccer) league, and is open to JV (5th grade-7th grade) and Varsity (5th grade-8th grade) pending player availability. SIMSS is a league where 5th-8th grade Middle School Teams compete in a league who's main purpose is to initiate a program for the Middle Schools of Southern Illinois to take over.  In this league most schools have a varsity team (usually 6th-8th grade players) and a JV team (5th-7th grade players) and play games back to back similar to High School. Many schools also have separate teams for boys and girls- Salem Soccer Association decides on whether to submit separate teams or one Coed based on players registered.
