The City of Salem offers a First Kicks for 3 & 4 year olds, Beginners league for 5 & 6 year olds and a Youth league for 7, 8, and 9 year olds. Registration is now thru February 27th at Salem City Hall.
4th thru 6th grade students
The Salem Soccer Association Inc. (SSA) offers a recreation league for 10 and 11 year olds. (Advanced 9 year olds are welcome) This league will not practice or play on Saturdays, therefore players in the city league may participate in both leagues. The first few weeks will be two nights a week training and then will move to practice one night and playing a game on the other night each week thru the end of April. Fee is $45 with $20 discount to those playing also in the city league. Registration is now thru Feb 27th. (Forms available on Registration Page)
6th thru 8th grade students
A Grade School (Junior High) League is forming in Southern Illinois this spring.
By spring 2016, this league will be teams representing grade schools playing against each other, however in 2015 players in the area are allowed to form these initial teams. The league is looking for towns that can put in co-ed or individual boys and girls teams. Salem has 13 boys and 13 girls interested already and if we are able to get that number up to around 20 of each, Salem will enter both.
This team(s) will practice at 4 or 5pm 3 nights a week and generally play 2 games on Saturdays concluding with a Tournament planned the weekend of April 25th. Salem, Centralia, and Mt. Vernon are all expected to enter, but many of the teams are around Marion this first year. Registration is $60 per player.
Registration deadline is Feb 21st. Schedules will be made on Feb. 22nd.
An informational meeting and registration is this Thursday, Feb. 19th at 7pm at First Christian Church.
